Specialized IT Security Certifications

We must all agree that we now officially live in a world in which experience is key. Period.

In our opinion, the days of employing a virgin-minded graduate and training him or her up to ‘learn the industry’ have gone. Typically we are seeing the Cyber Security world employing professionals to fulfill short-term tasks or projects that are laser-focused on a particular subject or component of an enterprise network for example.

We have chosen our list from the following professions that, again, in our opinion, are very specialized. Here’s a very brief overview of how one of our specialized IT InfoSec courses might be of value to you and to whom they are aimed at:

  • Instruction, i.e. being a teacher! (see: Certified EC-Council Instructor, CEI)
  • Become a legal malware/ cyber attack reporter (see: Certified Incident Handler, ECIH or Certified Incident Handling Engineer, CIHE)
  • Specialize and add to your skill-set VOIP Security! (see: Certified VOIP Professional, ECVP)
  • Interested in law and do you like CSI Miami? (see: Certified Computer Investigator, ECCI)
  • Decrypting terrorists and criminals laptop computers just sounds cool (see: Certified Encryption Specialist, ECES)
  • Become your firm’s go-to person for meltdowns (see: Disaster Recovery Professional, EDRP or the Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer, CDRE)
  • Linux is King! (see: Certified Secure Linux Engineer, CSLE)
  • Cloud Security is clearly in-demand and a huge skill to have (see: CompTIA Cloud+)
  • Everything is going mobile and tablet so, (see: CompTIA Mobile App Security+)
  • Everything is also going social so, (see: CompTIA Social Media Security Professional)

In Summary
We must all agreed the becoming an expert within a niche is a good thing. Perhaps even better is being the master of several niches within IT Security. For example, being a recognized professional with VOIP, Social Media Security, Linux and Disaster Recovery would clearly set you up as being someone with an impressive CV who can command a high salary.

What are your thoughts? Can you add a course that would fit into a security niche? If so please add it in the comments below and we will add it to our list. Many of our Hacker Hotshot speakers have specialized in particular industries, for example we have had SCADA/ ICS professionals on the show, as well as Mobile Security Experts, and many others who are multi-discplined.

All of the above courses can be studied in live online classes, by self-study and in some instances even via bootcamps. Get in touch with us if you have any specific questions to these courses or click on the link next to the course name for more information on that particular security training program.
