OWASP Austin

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) is a not-for-profit, international organization of information security professionals and practitioners. As the industry has evolved, so has the association. Starting as the NMAA, evolving into the DPMA, and then into our current evolution in 1996 of the ASSOCIATION of INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS (AITP), the association has kept pace with the changing needs and interests of our members. An agenda for each meeting will be announced with every scheduled meeting. Usually the group will discuss things that range from “hacking” to urban exploration, phreaking, lock picking, programming, discoveries, social engineering, and doing what hackers do best, drinking.

The activities of the group includes capture the flag hacking competitions, programming competitions, general hackistry, discussion and a lot more.

Computer Academic Underground

Cyber Security Event Title: Computer Academic Underground Address: Austin, Texas Description: Here’s another group for you, which does regular speaking engagements all over the Dallas-Austin area. CAU is considered as an institution of higher learning. What the CAU is all about is knowledge. Gaining knowledge, sharing knowledge, having the right to learn, and taking advantage of that right by teaching ourselves as well as teaching others.

Conjunctured

Cyber Security Event Title: Conjunctured Address: Austin, Texas Description: The very first coworking space in Austin and it’s pretty booked but you can put yourself on the waiting list. Come and enjoy their executive suite amenities including a kitchenette, high speed wireless internet and your own conference room. Born in 2008, Conjunctured was Austin’s original coworking space and one of the original 80 coworking spaces in the world. In September 2014, after a little over six years of coworking, the Conjunctured house closed its doors.

BSides Austin

Cyber Security Event Title: BSides Austin Address: 1209 N. IH 35 North (Exit 253 at Hwy 79) Round Rock, Texas Description: BSides Austin is a volunteer-run information security unconference. Our programming focuses on high-quality content, and our smaller, more intimate networking atmosphere fosters strong audience participation and overall group interaction. The very first BSides in Austin was organized in 2010 by Jack Daniel and Ben Tomhave. This was the fourth BSides ever to be held, and it had about 30 attendees. In 2011, Michael Gough stepped up and took over organization of our local event. Even as he continued to manage the BSides Austin events through 2015, Michael also helped kick off BSides Texas in 2012, and was heavily involved in BSides throughout Texas (including Dallas, San Antonio and Houston). BSides Austin has grown in that short time into a two-day event with around 300 participants. Our goal is to continue providing a fantastic event with great content and training for the information security community.
