Pentesting Linux Distro Update March 13 2013
The fine people over at Pentoo have announced that they have released their latest version of their Linux pentesting distribution. If you just want the download link – here it is. I think they also have a torrent file if you prefer that method.
Built under the 3.7.5 Linux and built with a fully hardened toolchain this looks like a distro that is certainly worth checking out – especially if you can’t wait for Offensive-Security’s Kali, or frankly, are currently dissatisfied with your distro.
For those that don’t know, Pentoo is designed for penetration testing and security assessment and is based on Gentoo Linux. We have another review and blog post on Pentoo which you can read about. A clever thing about Pentoo is that it can be overlayed onto Gentoo Linux which is pretty smart. Many other security and forensics distributions are based upon other “stable” distro’s (normally Debian or Ubuntu, like Backbox and BackTrack).
Like most other penetration testing distributions, Pentoo ships with packet injection patched wireless drivers, plenty of cracking tools and software, and just as many tools for testing and security assessment.
