THC Amap is a hacking and penetration tool that was, according to the lead author and developer, the first tool to perform application protocol detection.

However, please note that if you are interested in this pentesting tool then you might be better to use the nmap -sV command for application fingerprinting rather than using THC Amap.

This hacking tool is run from the command line to scan for open NETBIOS nameservers on a local or remote TCP/IP network. NBTScan is based on the functionality and processing structure of the standard Windows tool known as nbtstat, but this hacker tool has the benefit of operating on a wide range of IP addresses. According to the author this tool was written because previous similar tools only worked on the Windows platform, instead, NBTScan works on every (major) platform.

Written in portable C and is less than 40 kbytes in size NTBScan does not require special libraries or DLLs, and is run in an MS-DOS command window. This hacker tool also works on Linux!
