What’s this post all about?
In this post we are going to tell you about popular (and what we believe to be worthwhile) cyber security conferences and events that take place in London each year. Of course, there are dozens of events taking place in London, UK, and this post is very much a ‘work-in-progress’; i.e. meaning that we will be add events to this page over the coming months and years – so don’t be fooled by the original published date of this post!
Why did we select these Cyber Conferences?
This is not a list of ‘upcoming events’, rather, this is a list of regular (typically annual) InfoSec events that take place within London. We select these Conferences on two criteria: firstly, is the conference reputable and does it attract professional Cyber Professionals? And, secondly, does the conference take place on a regular basis? If the answer to these two questions is ‘yes’ then it is very likely that we will add the event to this page.
Can I add my Cyber Security Conference or event that is taking place in London to this page?
Of course! Please do! All you need to do is submit a form by visiting our main conference directory listing page here. We will happily add your event to all our resources including our weekly email that goes out to thousands of cyber security professionals.
44CON London | Where: London, United Kingdom
Our list of London events starts with a bang: 44CON. 44CON is, like many other cyber conferences, a blend of training and speaking; indeed two ‘functions’ that really are the same thing, i.e. ‘education and learning.’ For cybersecurity learning and education then 44CON certainly provides enough of each of those ‘functions.’ If you live and work in cybersecurity in London then this a great venue to network and recruit local talent. Of notable interest, the organizers of 44CON state that one of their goals is to “encourage that delegates have time with the speakers, who are all willing to spend time and talk about their work.”
BlackHat (Link takes you to their main site) | Where: London, United Kingdom
Black Hat Mobile Security Summit
Second on our list is ‘Black Hat’ ‘London’. We all know and love Black Hat and DEF CON, which are the two de-facto hackercon/ ‘hacker conferences’ that epitomize annual gathering of like-minded cyber tech folk, but what we might not all appreciate is that Black Hat (the more ‘corporate’ of the two) has a European and Asian presence too.
This year (2015), Black Hat Mobile took place in London, which was a two day ‘Cybersecurity Summit’ which focused on mobile security. The reason we added Black Hat cyber conference to our ‘best-of’ UK/ London list is because we suspect (and sincerely hope) that it continues to take place because if it does then you’ve got yourself a kick-ass awesome event to attend locally! Black Hat is extremely well organized and it never fails to attract the brightest minds in the industry so yes, try to attend if you can.
Real World Cryptography Workshop | Where: London, United Kingdom
Next on our highly coveted list is a niche conference that’s held in London each year that’s all about Cryptography! Titled the ‘Real World Cryptography Workshop’ and abbreviated to ‘RWC’ this conference, which is actually a series of workshops, aims to bring together cryptography cybersecurity researchers with developers to implement cryptography in real-world systems. According to the organizers the main goal of these workshop is to strengthen the dialogue between these two communities (i.e. the ‘researchers’ with the ‘developers’). Security topics at this years event included the uses of cryptography in real-world environments such as the Internet, the cloud, embedded devices and IoT.
Cyber Risk Insights Conference (UK Conferences) | Where: London, United Kingdom
Next on our recommended cybersecurity conferences London list is the ‘Cyber Risk Insights Conference.’ This event seems the most ‘hands-on’ of all conferences that took place this year. The conference included a full-day of talks that addressed critical privacy, network security and cyber insurance issues that confronting risk/ security audit professionals and their organizations. All speakers were leaders in network security, regulation, compliance, law enforcement, risk management and cyber risk insurance. The speakers offered their insights on managing risk on a rapidly evolving and increasingly dangerous cyber threat landscape so for a professional working in London, this is clearly a very useful conference to attend. Parameters for Guidance & Roadmap for the Prosecution of Cyber Crime in Civil, Criminal & Common Law
Last one our list is another cyber niche event: legality and cybersecurity in the UK. This conferences, which was actually billed as a ‘workshop’ investigated the legal standing of cyber-crime and terrorism.
Annual Industrial Control Cyber Security Europe | Where: London, United Kingdom
Also taking place in London is the annual ICS/ SCADA Cyber Security event. Typically this event takes place just after summer and the discussions revolve around vulnerability, mitigation, threat detection and planning for Utilities, Oil, Gas, Water, Power, Nuclear and Smart Grid sector. Methods in which organizations can further enhance priorities, methodologies, supply chain, etc. will also be discussed. Clearly if SCADA is your thing and you work in London then we’d recommend that you get yourself involved in this event.
IP Expo Europe (Cyber Security Europe) | Where: London, United Kingdom
These events are mega – and they are FREE! We’d absolutely recommend that you get yourself down to one of these events. They do actually take place throughout Europe and not just in London so be sure to check out there upcoming event listings. In the words of the organizers: “IP EXPO Europe 2016 incorporates six IT events under one roof – Cloud, Cyber Security, Networks and Infrastructure, Data Analytics, DevOps and Open Source. This year’s event will be the most comprehensive business-enhancing experience for those across the IT industry, including IT managers, CTOs, CDOs, network and storage engineers, CISOs, data analysts, developers and communications specialists.”
Cyber Security Expo London (‘Job Recruitment Fair’) | Where: London, United Kingdom
This isn’t really a cyber conference, rather, it’s a Job Recruitment event – but we’ve added it because these events do take place each year and they are an excellent resource to share and they do often have good talks and speakers too. As we all know there is a massive global demand for Cyber Professionals, not least in the UK.
CSX Cybersecurity Nexus Conference Europe | Where: London, United Kingdom
We are sure that you’ve all heard about ISACA, if not, then they are a similar outfit to ISSA and ISC2. We’ve added their event because like the other ones listed on this page they take place each year. ISACA has been an decades long contributor to cyber security so we’ll always help them out to get the message across in the UK.
RANT Conferences and Events | Where: London, United Kingdom
These guys are friends of ours and they organize very intimate and friendly cyber events in London, and also other parts of the UK (but please check that!). Their annual conference (which takes place in London Town) offers an educational networking and open discussion platform for 300 senior end user information security professionals. “Real-life, pertinent and controversial industry topics in a lively, entertaining, and sometimes irreverent manner will be discussed” – say the organizers!
Cyber Security in Healthcare< | Where: London, United Kingdom
We aren’t too sure if these events take place each year but we wanted to add this conference to spread the subject fields. We’ve added a bunch of SCADA/ ICS events that take place in London so it only makes sense to add a Healthcare event and further down the page we also have a Payment/ FinTech event. These specific healthcare events will almost always have an NHS lean. For example, the UK government has been pushing for a ‘paperless NHS’, and combined with the increased use of internet portals, telemedicine, clinical portals and virtual online clinics, there will always be a substantial cyber healthcare element. So, for those working in healthcare and cyber security in the UK, especially in London, this is a ‘must-go-to’ event.
Payment Security & Identification Summit (PAY-SEC) UK | Where: London, United Kingdom
In keeping with including niche cyber events that take place in London, here’s one where we also know the organizers: Pay-Sec (Payment Security) London. The folks behind this event put their hearts into it and it’s absolutely worth attending. This event, which takes place each year, discusses ways to “unite together the payment and finance professionals with the most up to date information, tools, products, trends, services and solutions for addressing security and cyber threats in the payment markets”. Sounds good to us! Let us know if you attend this event.
National Security & Resilience Conference | Where: London, United Kingdom
Moving on to a slightly more ‘high-brow’ event is the annual “National Security & Resilience Conference” which takes place in London, UK. This cyber conference tackles recent issues and threats facing government agencies, organizations and businesses, and “thought provoking discussions on strategies and innovations to ensure your company meet these changing challenges.” Probably aimed more at the CISO, CTO, CIO level in our opinion.
World Congress on Internet Security | Where: London, United Kingdom
Last but certainly not least is the World Congress Annual Internet Security event that like all the others above takes place in London. The WorldCIS (as it is abbreviated) is an international event that is “dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practical implementation of security on the Internet and Computer Networks.” You can think of these events as being more academic and theory based.
There are a ton of other Cyber events in London, not least the mighty BSides. If you think that we’ve missed a conference or cyber event in London, then drop a comment below!
