Summary of Cybersecurity Conferences Happening This Week [Week 48, 2016]

This post is a summary of Information Security (InfoSec) events, conferences and meetings that are taking place this week: business week# 48 (Monday, November 28 – Sunday, December 4, 2016).

Here’s our updated list for (all events) for 2017.


FireEye Cyber Defense Summit 2016, November 28, 2016 | Washington, DC, USA
In 2010, Mandiant launched the first MIRcon (Mandiant Incident Response Conference) and since then the event has grown and grown. This hacker conference has been named ever since Mandiant was acquired.

2nd Annual UK Health Cyber Security Summit, November 29, 2016 | London, UK
Healthcare and cyber security is big business and continues to be so. This cyber security healthcare conference takes place in the UK. Organised by NHS Digital and City & Financial Global, the 2nd Annual UK Health Cyber Security Summit will see Dame Fiona Caldicott (from the National Data Guardian) share her thoughts about the use of confidential health and care information during her keynote address at The Church House, Westminster, on 29th November 2016. The twitter handle for this evevnt is @cfconferences. If you can’t make this years event then make sure that you get yourself down to the 3rd Annual UK Health Cyber Security Summit for 2017, which, we imagine will also very likely take place in London, UK.

ISC2 Security Congress LATIN AMERICA, November 29 – 30, 2016 | San Paulo, Brazil
ISC2, the membership body behind the (in)famous CISSP is hosting this two day event. According to the organizers: “Cybersecurity professionals and industry thought leaders will share their expertise and international best practices through presentations, interactive discussions and case studies. Participant will have the chance to learn the latest innovations on different areas with experts on emerging technology trends.” Sounds good to us, and of course, this event will very likely be worthy of Continuing Education Credits (if you are a CISSP, CEH or CISA holder).

Cyber Threat Intelligence & Incident Response, November 29 – 30, 2016 | London, UK
According to the organizers: “This is one of the premier forum for security experts to address how a greater understanding of the cyber threat landscape can lead to exponential improvements in strategic planning and tactical decision making during cyber incidents.” We don’t have the link for this conference because it seems to be down – but a quick Google Search ought to remedy that!

SmartSec Europe 2016, November 29 – 30, 2016 | Amsterdam, Netherlands
The 3rd annual SmartSec Europe 2016 also takes place this week in the Dam. The event organizers are keen to emphasize that they have brought together some amazing speakers in the IT and OT cyber-security field. This event is certain very technical and includes “intimate round table discussions, a technology innovation panel session, a live demo lab of the latest tools, a solution zone displaying state-of-the-art utility specific cyber-security solutions, and an evening networking reception facilitating interaction and connection in a relaxed and informal environment. Gartner IAM, November 29 – December 1, 2016 | Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Gartner, as we all know, is huge. According to the organizers: “At Gartner Identity & Access Management Summit 2016, you’ll learn how to tackle complex issues and generate new ideas to reimagine significant elements of your IAM approach for digital age success.”

Infosecurity Leadership Summit, November 30, 2016 | London, UK
According to the organizers: “The purpose of the event is to enable peer-to-peer collaboration and information sharing to provide senior executives with actionable intelligence and insight that they can apply to their information security strategy.”

The Annual North America CIFI Security Summit, November 30 – December 1, 2016 | Toronto, Canada
The Annual CIFI Security Summit is a two day IT security conference and exhibition that focuses on bringing leading security experts from across Asia Pacific to discuss Cyber Intelligence, Digital forensics, Cyber Security and Cyber Investigation.

Botconf 2016, November 30 – December 2, 2016 | Lyon, France
Botconf is an international scientific (‘Computer Science’) event that aims to bring academic, industrial, law enforcement and independent researchers together to work on issues related to the fight against botnets.

Cyber in Business Conference, December 1, 2016 | Melbourne, Australia
This is a very cool Australian Cyber Security Conference that addresses all aspects of cyber within a business context; yes, a lot to review and assess but if you live and work in cybersecurity in Australia then this is certainly an event worth attending.

SRI Security Congress 2016, December 4 – 6, 2016 | Perth, Australia
Here’s another cyber security event taking place in Australia: SRI Security Congress. According to the organizers: “…this event will cover areas of security professions and disciplines as part of a holistic engagement with the wider security discourse.”

18th International Conference on Sciences, Engineering and Technological Innovations, December 1 – 2, 2016 | Lagos, Nigeria
According to the organizers: [This is] “an International event for individuals who wish to exhibit their projects and talk about the most recent innovations and results in the field of technology advances and engineering. You are welcome to present your composition and share your experiences in the issues and researches in sciences, designing and technology innovation.”

OWASP Rio De Plata 2016, December 1 – 2, 2016 | Montevideo, Uruguay
