This post is a summary of Cyber Security (InfoSec) events and conferences taking place this week.
SANS Security Awareness Summit & Training 2016, August 1 – 10, 2016, 55 Cyril Magnin St., San Francisco, CA 94102, United States
The SANS Security Awareness Summit is one of the largest SANS events that takes place each year. This summit has been designed for security awareness officers and indeed any middle-senior cyber professional. This event (which is an annual event) has been expanded by two days to support additional discussions and sessions and host several networking events. Think of this as more of a business-networking event.
Passwords16, August 2 – 3, 2016, 255 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89169, United States
“Passwords” is a specific type of conference attracting researchers, password crackers, and experts in password security. Central to the theme of this cyber event is to better understand the challenges surrounding digital authentication, and how to adequately fix them. While large mainstream information security conferences tend to focus on current hot subjects in the industry, “Passwords” events explore fringe conversations on everything from (according to the organizers) “…. analysis and education to creating, securing, cracking, and exploiting authentication solutions….”
The organizers are also keen to get participation from attendees of this event.

DEFCON is awesome. As one of the oldest and longest running hacking conferences it can be considered as being the ‘must-go’ cyber event. Hackers, corporate IT InfoSec Professionals, and three letter government agencies all converge on Las Vegas every summer to absorb cutting edge hacking research from the most brilliant brains in the world and test their skills.
Cyber Crime Africa Summit, August 1 – 5, 2016, No 1 Bypass, Accra, Ghana, Ghana
