Clearly the two events that jump out are Black Hat and DEFCON. Every year, thousands of security folk gather in Las Vegas to attend ‘Hacker Summer Camp’ which is a collective term for Black Hat, B-Sides Las Vegas, and DEFCON.

News Relating to this week’s Conferences
The TOR scandal! A Black Hat talk titled: “You Don’t Have to be the NSA to Break Tor: Deanonymizing Users on a Budget,” has been cancelled on the advice of lawyers! The hackers promised to explain how to crack Tor’s anonymity systems on a budget of $3,000 or less.

Last year, we interviewed Jeff Forristal on Hacker Hotshots regarding the Android “MasterKey” vulnerability. It seems that Jeff and his team over at Bluebox Mobile have identified another vulnerability wich they are referring to as “FakeID”. The flaw within Android is connected to the certificate chain. All will be revealed at Black Hat starting August 2nd.

As you’d expect, there is a huge amount going on this year at DEFCON. Here are some highlights we picked up on:
– Home router security holes are to be named and shamed at this year’s DEFCON hacker meet up. The meeting aims to find out exactly how resilient off the shelf products are. The Orb are playing the 3rd day of DEFCON (which is a Saturday).
